What is Recycle Coach?
Recycle Coach is a proprietary web and mobile tool designed to help local governments easily and quickly communicate information about waste and recycling services to residents. Recycle Coach can help answer very simple questions, such as "what day does trash and recycling pick up happen in my neighborhood." It can also answer more complicated ones, such as "can the packaging item I have at my house be recycled, and if so, do I put it in my curbside cart or drop it off somewhere?"
Why is Kane County Using Recycle Coach?
Illinois EPA has invested in Recycle Coach for the whole state with the goal of improving recycling education and reaching statewide diversion goals. Kane County's Recycling Program is leaping on a chance to modernize our online education without dipping in to our limited program budget. We think it will be a lot easier for people to type in the item they need to recycle into Recycle Coach than to navigate our cumbersome A-Z list or to call the Recycling Coordinator every time!
How does Recycle Coach Compare to Info. from my City or Waste Hauler?
The Kane County Recycling Coordinator carefully built the back-end of the Recycle Coach database to reflect the guidelines that are broadly accepted by municipalities and waste haulers. If information in Recycle Coach is very different from what you've heard from your hauler or city, call us at 630-208-3841.
What Does Recycle Coach Do?
There are three main parts of Recycle Coach: The Calendar, What Goes Where, and Discovery Zone.
-
Calendar: All residents will see County Recycling Program events on their calendars. Residents of municipalities that are on-boarded with Recycle Coach will also see the dates for their curbide trash, recycling and organics collection. The calendar will typically include special collection events, like Christmas tree collection, etc. App users can request reminders to their phone to make sure the bins go out on time. Municipalities may choose to add other events and services to their Recycle Coach calendars. Examples might include street sweeping, hydrant flushing, etc.
-
NOTE: At the moment, curbside collection calendar information is only available for City of Geneva, Village of Maple Park, and Mill Creek. Want this feature for your town? Contact City/Village Hall and ask them to email the County Recycling Program about working with Recycle Coach (for free)
-
What Goes Where: This tool is available on the website (middle tab in widget above) and through the app for all of Kane County. Simply choose your town from the drop-down (or, pick "Kane County") and start typing in the name of the object you want to recycle.
- BONUS: Mobile app users can search items by snapping a picture on their phone!
-
Discovery Zone: This tool is available on the website (right-most tab on widget above) and through the app for all of Kane County. Hungry for more recycling info? The Discovery Zone has videos and blog posts about some of the hottest issues in recycling right now, plus activity packs for kids of different ages!
Can I use Recycle Coach in Other Languages?
English is the default language. Kane County users can choose to use Recycle Coach in Spanish, Polish, Hindi, Tagalog or Arabic. Simply choose your preferred language using the drop-down on the top right of the widget.
