Kane Farm Bureau Receives National Award for Hunger Relief Effort

Awards Ceremony PictureKane County Farm Bureaus Harvest for ALL hunger relief effort was recognized with a Summit Award at the National Building Museum in Washington D.C. (l to r) Summit Awards Dinner Co-Chairs Matthew Shay and Karen Hackett, ASAE President & CEO John Graham, KCFB Information Director Ryan Klassy, KCFB Manager Steve Arnold, Master of Ceremonies Velma Hart, and Summit Awards Judging Committee Chair John Ganoe.

A resolution applauding the achievement and innovation behind the county Farm Bureaus Harvest for All hunger relief program (and in recognition of the Bureaus recent receipt of a highly coveted national award) was passed by the County Board Nov 8th.

The Farm Bureau accepted the highest award an association can receive at an October awards ceremony in Washington, D.C.  Characterized by one industry publication as the Nobel Prize of Associations, the Summit Awards honor organizations that advance America and the world through their work.

ASAE, the Center for Association Leadership handed out just six such awards in 2011.  Entered in the category The Power to Enrich Lives, Kane County Farm Bureaus Harvest for ALL hunger relief effort was celebrated for its extraordinary contributions to society.

Harvest for ALL allows farmers to donate a portion of their harvest to a local food pantry of their choice.  Nearly three dozen farms fields in Kane County, sites where crop proceeds have been pledged to local food pantries, have signs promoting the hunger relief effort and encouraging others to participate. Farm Bureau members have joined together to contribute over $50,000 to restock local food pantry shelves.

While KCFB and its volunteers are a part of a state and national organization, it was the only recipient to win as a local chapter.

To be recognized among these national organizations that are carrying out such impressive programs is a tremendous honor, said Steve Arnold, KCFB Manager, the success of Harvest for ALL is a testament to the spirit of community support that has always existed among our members and volunteers.

ASAE produced this three-minute video for on the Farm Bureaus program and its award. Another video produced by the Farm Bureau and additional information on the program and the Farm Bureau itself is available on its website.
